Small Group Directory

Fall 2007

Letter from Pastor Larry

Dear Friends at Essex Alliance,

/files/about_us/images/pastor_larry_head.jpgLast evening was wonderful and refreshing for me.  I just came off two difficult days (yes, pastor’s have them, too) and was very tired.  I was thinking on my way home that my body wanted a long nap, but I had an evening meeting – with my small group.  Being with friends who know and care about me was just what the Great Physician ordered.  Their love and support rejuvenated me.  My energy soon returned as we ministered to one another and laughter began to fill the air.

Many people ask me, “Why should I join a small group?”  The answer is quite simple.  Handling life’s situations is a lot easier when done with a group of people who are for you.  Life is more fulfilling when you have people who need you.  God created us to do life in community.  That is why the small group ministries mission is Creating Places Where No One Stands Alone.

God has created us with different interests and everybody’s needs are not the same.  We know that growing in Christ involves more than just Bible study.  Small groups are not like “one size fits all” gloves.  That is why we have an ever growing variety of small groups to meet those needs and interests ranging from Bible and topical studies to activities and hobbies.  There are groups for men, women, young adults and mothers of pre-schoolers; divorce recovery and blended families; serving others, etc.

We put together this directory to help you find the right fit.  So sit back, put your feet up and look through the directory to find the group for you.  Be sure to read How to Use This Directory.  It will help you navigate through the opportunities and explain how to connect with a group.  If you have trouble finding a group, please contact us at smallgroups@essexalliance.org.  We will help you.

For the small group ministry team,
Pastor Larry
