Why do I need to attend a class to become a member?
Each year we offer a class called "Getting To Know Essex Alliance Church," taught by lead pastor Scott Slocum. In this class we explore questions like who we are, what we do as a church, and why we do it. We talk about our approach to making our community a better place, and the part we are to play in showing people that they matter to God. These conversations are intended to help guide you toward a meaningful decision about membership here at Essex Alliance.
Why is membership important?
The Bible is clear: membership is not a means of getting into heaven; nor does it "score points" with God. The Bible does give us a clear picture, however, of definable groups of people, committed to Christ and His mission, and to one another. We see membership as one of the public indications of that commitment.
Who can attend?
Although many attend the class with the specific purpose of becoming members of Essex Alliance, many come just to learn more about the church. Both groups are welcome, and there is no pressure to "join" after completing the class.
Just how boring is it?
Not at all! The format is a combination of presentation and open dialogue. Questions — any questions — are welcomed and answered throughout the evening. Come comfortable, be relaxed, and enjoy the time together. Refreshments are provided, along with ample time for laughter and breaks!
How easy is it to become a member?
Our membership process is designed to make joining Essex Alliance as easy and as accessible as possible while maintaining a sense of value and personal responsibility. The first step is to attend one of the classes so that you may make an informed decision about joining. You'll receive a packet with some information and forms, and Pastor Scott will walk the class through the process of what to do with each piece and what to expect next.
When is the next class?
Sunday, October 5, 2008 - from 3 to 7 pm in the Old Stage Campus auditorium. Refreshments will be provided. Sorry, no childcare available.
How can I register for the next class?
Registration for the October class will begin online in early September. Lobby signups will begin mid September.

While attendance is required for membership, attending the class does not obligate you to "join." Whether you choose membership or not, the "Getting to Know Essex Alliance" class is a great way to learn more about our church!
